Wastewater Treatment Challenges – Five Shades of Gray

Thu. January 28| 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM | Room B-310

Effective treatment of wastewater generated in poultry processing facilities is not a simple direct process.  Sanitation programs that use anti-microbial chemicals to rid the facility of unwanted bacteria all too often carry-over to poultry industry wastewater treatment plants where they harm or even fully eliminate beneficial bacteria used to treat wastewater. This program will characterize the processes and equipment used to treat wastewater generated in poultry processing facilities as well as identify challenges and liability that can result from the over use or misuse of sanitation chemicals in processing plants.
